As of Monday, the Toronto Reference Library is offering a space for aspiring filmmakers and musicians to record their work, giving new meaning to the notion that “having fun isn’t hard if you’ve got a library card.” The Green Screen Room is the newest addition to the library’s existing Digital Innovation Hub, an area on its main floor dedicated to digital technology workstations.
The 12 foot by 15 foot room features a full-wall green screen along with a workstation with preloaded audio production software.
Library patrons can book the room for two hours per day by simply calling ahead or stopping by the front desk.
Professional equipment available for patron use includes Garageband and Audacity software, studio speakers, two 500 watt lightbulbs and softboxes on tripods, a Simmons SDXpress2 electronic drum kit, DSLR cameras, mic kits and studio headphones—basically, everything you’d ever need to make a short video, podcast, or music demo.

The green screen room includes a workstation complete with audio recording software.
If you’re looking to explore the space and maybe jumpstart some projects, but are not well-versed in recording technology, the library is also planning to hold workshops on video production and audio recording.
